Presented by: Dunedin Symphony Orchestra

Umberto Clerci returns to conduct a concert in which the DSO celebrates the University of Otago’s School of Music centenary year with three of their music lecturers performing as soloists in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto. Tessa Petersen, Heleen du Plessis and Terence Dennis, all soloists in their own right, will combine to form the soloists’ ensemble.

Also on the programme is Brahms’s second symphony, described as “full of warmth, brimming with optimism and overflowing with lush, joyful melodies” (Classic FM)

Umberto Clerici’s impassioned conducting has been described as follows: “Maestro Clerici is a powerhouse on the podium; an exuberant, exacting conductor, energetically giving of himself in delivering a masterful, technically superb and passionate reading of the score.” (ArtsHub).

The opening of Dorothy Buchanan’s ‘Peace Overture’ features a prominent Pacific log drum solo, clearly setting the work in our part of the world.
