Few DJs understand a dancefloor quite like Marcellus Pittman. A cornerstone of contemporary Detroit dance music, Pittman brings decades of experience, deep musical knowledge and an unmistakable sense of groove to Meow Nui on Friday 27 November.
A true master behind the decks, Pittman is known for sets that move effortlessly between rolling, low-slung house, high-tempo disco, raw techno, funk, postpunk and deeper late-night selections. His approach is instinctive and unpredictable, built around meticulous mixing and an ability to read a room and take it exactly where it needs to go.
Pittman first came to prominence alongside Theo Parrish on Essential Selections Volume 1 before becoming one quarter of the legendary Three Chairs, alongside Parrish, Kenny Dixon Jr. (Moodymann) and Rick Wilhite. He later founded his own Unirhythm imprint and released music through labels including Omar-S’ FXHE, while also collaborating as part of the T.O.M. Project and Rotating Assembly.
His productions carry the same raw, spacious and deeply human quality as his DJ sets, pairing tough drum programming with subtle, unexpected detail. It is a sound rooted firmly in Detroit while remaining completely his own.
From intimate basements to major clubs and festivals across the world, Marcellus Pittman has built a reputation as one of dance music’s most respected selectors. This is a rare chance to experience a true Detroit heavyweight on the Meow Nui system.
Support from Benny Salvador, one of Aotearoa’s most exciting young selectors, blending house, techno, electro, disco-funk, dub, boogie and beyond.
Don’t miss your chance to be in the room.
