From the streets of Conant Gardens, Detroit, to stages around the world, Slum Village are one of the most influential names in hip-hop. Formed in the early 1990s by T3, Baatin and the legendary J Dilla (Jay Dee), the group became a cornerstone of Detroit’s underground scene, helping shape the soulful, innovative sound that would define a generation.
Today, T3 and Grammy-nominated producer and rapper Young RJ continue to carry the Slum Village legacy forward, honouring the group’s roots while pushing its sound into new territory. From seminal releases including Trinity, Detroit Deli and Villa Manifesto, to the acclaimed YES and their latest album F.U.N., Slum Village’s catalogue is packed with enduring classics, including “Tainted” and “Selfish” featuring Kanye West and John Legend.
With recent releases such as “Request,” “Factor” and “So Superb,” and F.U.N. featuring artists including Cordae, Larry June, Elijah Fox and Eric Roberson, Slum Village remain as vital and creatively driven as ever.
Joining them in Wellington is Vice Souletric, the Ohio-born MC, producer and United Grind co-founder known for keeping the spirit of True School Hip Hop alive. With six albums to his name and collaborations with the likes of Slum Village, Talib Kweli, Pete Rock, Benny The Butcher, 9th Wonder, Skyzoo, Hi-Tek and Young RJ, Vice brings decades of authentic hip-hop craft to the stage.
