Good things come in threes and the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s 2010 line-up is no exception. From the fresh, innovative TOWER season of From Here to There – a trio of works, through to the sizzling Meridian Season of Carmen and the festive favourite, The Nutcracker, there is something for everyone.
Kicking off the year, the TOWER Season of From Here to There, features two new commissions, including a new work by acclaimed UK choreographer Christopher Hampson who thrilled New Zealand audiences with his versions of Romeo & Juliet and Cinderella.
The Meridian Season of Carmen is his electrifying contemporary ballet set in modern day Rio de Janeiro. As the world’s most famous seductress, there’s no doubt Carmen will add some heat to the New Zealand winter.
To end the year, the Royal New Zealand Ballet presents the quintessential Christmas ballet The Nutcracker. Just what the doctor ordered - a Christmas classic with a twist. Be dazzled by whirling snow imps and tango-ing tea-ladies as Tchaikovsky's magical score transports you straight into the festive season.
